2013 -- week 43 -- the pacific northwest

the pacific northwest is so different from arizona, and i'm kind of in love with it. it was cold and overcast the whole time we were there, and it was such a refreshing change of pace from the constant sunshine of the southwest. i know that sounds weird, especially if you know how much i love the sunshine, but i really enjoyed getting bundled up in a coat, hat, scarf, and gloves.

i also enjoyed how distinct and different seattle and portland are. seattle is a big city; it has tall buildings, awesome public transportation, and covers a large area. there are tourist attractions, large hills, major sports teams, and a huge university in the middle of the city. while portland is much smaller, flatter, and super bike friendly. portland also has a great food cart scene, funky neighborhoods, and both wineries and breweries within the city limits.

but i can't decide which place i like best. i love that seattle has the hustle and bustle of a large city. plus, they have an extensive public transportation system, and i love that too. but portland is smaller and cozier, and i feel much more comfortable riding my bike there. both places have great food and awesome music, and while both don't always have the best weather, they're never super cold or super hot. so it's a real toss up.

do you have a favorite between seattle and portland?
